How to get liquor permit in Gujarat :Who is allowed to drink alcohol in Gujarat and how to get a permit In Gujarat, a decision has been taken by the state government that alcohol can be consumed in the ‘Gujarat International Finance Tech (Gift) City’ located in Gandhinagar. The Narcotics and Excise Department of the state government has issued a press note about the official announcement of this decision and the procedure for the same.

According to this press note, ‘It has been decided to exempt the consumption of liquor to the employees and authorized visitors working in Gandhinagar Gift City.’

This decision has been taken to provide ‘Wine and Dine’ facility in Gift City area.

How to get liquor permit in Gujarat  This concession will be granted to all employees, owners working in the entire Gift City liquor access permit. It has been said that they will be able to consume liquor in hotels, restaurants and clubs that offer such ‘wine and dine’.

According to the press note, existing or future hotels, restaurants, clubs at Gift City will be able to obtain a wine and dine facility i.e. FL-3 license there.

Apart from Gift City, in other areas of Gujarat, liquor permits are issued by the Narcotics and Excise Department of the Gujarat Government under certain special circumstances.

Liquor permits in Gujarat are mainly issued to tourists, temporary residents, citizens of Gujarat on health grounds and retired members of the armed forces to maintain their health.

In the Legislative Assembly, Minister of State for Home Harsh Sanghvi, while replying to the Congress MLA’s question, said that foreign liquor worth more than 197 crores has been seized in the state in the last 2 years.

Some relaxations in Gujarat’s liquor ban allow Gujaratis to get a health permit to keep and consume Indian-made foreign liquor in their homes to maintain their health.

To get this permit, the age of a person should be at least 40 years and their monthly income should be more than 25,000 rupees. The applicant has to deposit Rs 2000 as processing fee and Rs 2000 as health check fee for this permit. The annual fee for this permit is 2000 rupees.

Thereafter, the applicant has to submit his family doctor’s certificate, proof of his age, residence and income.

Under the health permit, a person above 40 and up to 50 years of age is allowed three units per month, a person between 50 to 65 years of age four units and a person above 65 years of age five units.

Provision of Liquor Permit

  • The applicant has to pay a process fee of Rs 2000 for this permit. Apart from this, the applicant has to apply within 24 months of residing in Gujarat.
  • Ex-servicemen residing in Gujarat after retirement from armed forces get health permit for possession and consumption of liquor to maintain their health.
  • To obtain this permit, the applicant has to produce proof of ex-serviceman’s identity card and residence. This permit is valid for three years and has an annual fee of Rs 500.

Foreign Liquor Group Permit is provided to members who are not residents of Gujarat.

  • For this permit, the applicant has to pay a fee of Rs 5000 and the approved quantity of foreign liquor has to be purchased from a licensed dealer of foreign liquor approved by the government.
  • A person who violates these conditions for the first time can be punished with a fine of 500 rupees and imprisonment for six months, and for the second or third time there is a provision of higher punishment.

Liquor Temporary Resident Permit

  • Applicant must be at least 21 years of age to obtain this permit. Apart from this they should have a valid visa and passport copy.
  • For this permit, the applicant has to pay an application fee of Rs 500 and the approved quantity of foreign liquor has to be purchased from a licensed dealer of foreign liquor approved by the government.
  • However, tourists are issued this permit for a maximum period of one month and no fee is required for this permit. According to this permit, a maximum of six units is permitted and it has to be purchased from approved licensed dealers of foreign liquor in the state.
  • Tourists coming to Gujarat from other states of India and any country where the consumption of alcohol is not prohibited can obtain a permit to possess and consume foreign liquor during their visit to the state of Gujarat for a maximum period of seven days.
  • To obtain this permit, the applicant must be above 21 years of age and can be allowed one unit of alcohol for a week.
